The Kut are an all female band and they can play! ![]() If your interpretation of girl power favours a Lynchian landscape crossed with Edward Scissorhands and fishnet stockings, and you have dreams where the Sugababes are locked in a cell for crimes of aural assault while you crowdsurf in a sweaty venue to hard edged indie rock, then The Kut are definitely for you. Frontwoman, Maha, recently secured an endorsement deal with Marshall Amps for her breathtaking show solos, making her one of the only females in the UK to have one. Sure to make a big impression over the atlantic the title track 'Doesn't Matter Anyway' mixes a compelling chorus with crisp and choppy rhythm giving a perfect backdrop to Maha's snarling but note perfect vocals. 'Closure' which may be more indicative of their normal style is more interesting musically. The drumming reminded me of Stephen Morris circa Unknown Pleasures and the song has a top notch earthy production. An understated but nonetheless captivating guitar break points to a refinement and a more intriguing collection of influences to this band than your usual all girl combo. Their double A-side single 'Doesn't Matter Anyway' / 'Closure' on Monday 2nd November (Criminal / Universal / Orchard).
